Emeritus Professor Dr Shahjahan Khan received the highest civilian award of Australia, Order of Australia Medal (OAM) in 2026.

He served as the Vice Chancellor and CEO, Asian University of Bangladesh, Bangladesh 2022-26. He received his PhD (1992) and MSc degrees in Mathematical Statistics, Western University, Canada; and MSc and BSc Honours degrees, Jahangirnagar University, Bangladesh. He joined Dhaka University, Bangladesh in 1980 as a Lecturer, and was awarded Commonwealth Scholarship in 1984.  

He is an Emeritus Professor of University of Southern Queensland (UniSQ), Australia. In his honour, UniSQ, Australia has introduced Professor Shahjahan Khan Scholarship for international students.   
Professor Khan is an elected Expatriate Fellow of Bangladesh Academy of Sciences; Fellow, Royal Statistical Society, UK; Elected Member, International Statistical Institute (ISI), Netherlands; Member of Institute of Mathematical Statistics (IMS), USA; and Statistical Society of Australia.   
He received prestigious Q M Hossain Gold Medal from Bangladesh Statistical Association (2012), the 4th recipient since 1996, and ISESCO-ISOSS Gold Medal (2001), Morocco; ISOSS Gold Medal (2007), Malaysia for his outstanding research and remarkable international professional leadership, and Lifetime Achievement Award, Indian Association of Reliability & Statistics, 2025.    
As the President of Islamic Countries Society of Statistical Sciences (ISOSS) 2005-20014, he organized six very successful international conferences in Bangladesh, Malaysia, Egypt, Qatar, Indonesia, and Pakistan. In 2011, ISOSS organised an international conference in Lahore in honour of Professor Khan. He is the Founding Chief Editor of Scopus indexed Journal of Applied Probability and Statistics (JAPS), USA since 2005.  
  
His Springer Nature’s published book on “Meta-Analysis for Health and Experimental Studies” has over 44,000 downloads and is due for its 2nd ed. in 2026; and other book on “Statistical Methods and Models for Health and Clinical Studies” (2025) has a Greek translation by PSICHOGIOS PUBLICATIONS SA. He has written study books on Data Analysis, Distribution Theory, Statistical Models, Statistical Inference, and Experimental Design.  
  
His research interest includes systematic review and meta-analysis, public health, statistical inference with non-sample prior information, predictive inference, multivariate analysis and linear models. He has published over 260 peer reviewed research papers, and presented 25 research workshops, 37 keynote/plenary addresses, and over 60 invited talks in scholarly international gatherings. He has supervised 20 PhD and 3 MPhil students and examined over 40 PhD theses of various universities in Australia, Malaysia, Canada, India, Oman, Bangladesh, Fiji, South Africa, and Pakistan.   
  
His outstanding community and multicultural leadership have been applauded in Australian Parliament, recently by Senator Paul Scarr and earlier by Federal MP, Dr John McVeigh and Mr David Janetzki MP. He was ranked 49 among the most influential people in Toowoomba, Queensland by the daily Chronicle. 
He won the Cultural Diversity Ambassador Award of Queensland Government (2014), Queensland Police Services Award (2016), and UniSQ Award of Excellence for Diversity and Inclusion (2018). He served as the Chair of USQ Multicultural Staff Network 2013-2020, and organised many local and international seminars and symposia on Multiculturalism to promote respect and dignity among  diverse communities. He was an elected Director of Muslim Community Cooperative Australia (MCCA) 2015-1018.  He joined University of Southern Queensland (USQ), Australia in 1993 as a Lecturer and became Founding Chair/Professor of Statistics  in 2011. He taught at Western University, Canada; University of Dhaka, Bangladesh; King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, Saudi Arabia; Sultan Qaboos University, Oman; and University of Bahrain, Bahrain. At USQ, he has served as the Statistics Discipline leader, member on the Academic Senate/Board and Chair of Multicultural Staff Network.  
  
As a Visiting Scientist he has visited and made presentations at Tokyo University, Japan; National University of Singapore; Carleton University, Canada; Calcutta University, India; University of Malaya, University Science Malaysia, University Technology Malaysia, and University Putra Malaysia; Bogor Agricultural University, Indonesia; Daffodil International University and Rajshahi University, Bangladesh; and Karachi University and Air University in Pakistan.  
He has lived and worked in 8 different countries in Australia, Europe, North America, Southeast Asia, and Middle East, in addition to travelling extensively to over 30 countries.

(a) Lead a world-class University  Serve as the Vice Chancellor of any reputed University to lead it to a centre of excellence of high-quality teaching and foster a research culture to help produce cutting edge research outputs for achieving prestigious global university ranking.  
(b) National Research Development Develop and lead an umbrella organisation to co-ordinate research at all levels in Bangladesh, to foster 
university and industry research collaborations, connect local researchers to NRB researchers abroad, support PhD research, provide research training opportunities, bring all research outputs under one online platform to place Bangladesh on the global research race for international visibility and recognition.
